Lady Frankenstein – 6:00 pm
Possession – 8:00 pm
Lady Frankenstein directed by Mel Welles – 1971 – 85m.
A low-budget twist on Mary Shelley’s classic horror story starring Joseph Cotton, Lady Frankenstein tantalizes and titillates with a wicked blend of sexy encounters and monster movie fun. Certainly the original Frankenstein contained a great deal of erotic overtones, but Lady Frankenstein and its star, the ravishing Sara Bay (aka Rosabla Neri), take these themes and express them overtly. Bay is the tawdry daughter of Baron Frankenstein. When the old man is killed by his first monstrous creation, his beautiful daughter continues his work – with slightly different aims: Bay creates a brawny and sinewy love machine for her personal pleasure! But when the original monster returns, Bay and her unnatural lover must fight for their lives! Lady Frankenstein is nonstop entertainment, pleasingly toeing the line between fright and flesh.
Possession directed by Andrzej Zutawski – 1981 – 123m.
In this controversial epic of obsessive love and sexual psychosis, Isabelle Adjani (Nosferatu The Vampyre, The Story of Adele H.) and Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) star as a married couple torn by emotional instability and carnal infidelity. As their madness grows, their world becomes a nightmare of savage murder…and climaxes in a monstrous manifestation of sexual evil. Written and directed by acclaimed international director Andrzej Zulawski and featuring shocking creature effects by Carlo Rambaldi (E.T., Alien), Possession is an experience like no other; part masterful art film, part bizarre horror thriller.
The Guild Cinema is located at 3405 Central Avenue NE, in the Nob Hill area.
