THE MADS ONCE AGAIN RIFF VIRTUALLY: THIS TIME ON A “BRAIN”!
Mystery Science Theater 3000‘s Frank Conniff and Trace Beaulieu are “taking movie riffing back onstage” once again in a livestreamed event – this time 6:00 pm MDT Tuesday, November 17.
The two, who starred as Dr. Clayton Forrester and TV’s Frank on MST3K, are riffing The Brain from Planet Arous (1957 alien invasion flick with John Agar). This show will mark their fifth time performing together this year, after The Mads’ 2020 tour dates were cancelled due to COVID-19. A Q&A session with a special TBA guest follows the movie screening.
This show will broadcast live via a private link that will be sent to ticket purchasers an hour prior to showtime. A percentage of the proceeds from the event will benefit a non-profit organization to be named.
Viewers will be able to tune in from anywhere in the world. Anyone who purchases a ticket will gain access to re-watch the livestream and download it for personal viewing.
In The Brain from Planet Arous, Gor, a powerful criminal brain from the planet Arous, assumes the body of scientist Steve March (John Agar). Through March, he begins to control the world by threatening destruction to any country challenging his domination. Although its B-movie status gave it poor reviews upon its initial release, the film has since become a cult classic. In 1983, Stephen King told Playboy magazine that his novel “Carrie, for example, derived to a considerable extent from a terrible grade-B movie called The Brain from Planet Arous.”
Tickets for the November 17 livestreamed event are $10.00 plus a service fee. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-mads-the-brain-from-planet-arous-live-riffing.
