This Island Earth:  In a ‘close encounter,’  two Earthling scientists (Rex Reason and Faith Domergue) are “recruited” by the inhabitants of the planet Metaluna to aid them in a desperate effort to defend their world from a ruthless, all-out attack by alien invaders, the Zagons.  Well-directed and photographed, This Island Earth is “…done with a grandiose solemnity that makes it worthy of the name of space opera. The settings, in particular, are brilliantly imaginative, with superb use of color in conjuring the almost surrealistic landscape of Metaluna, a cratered wasteland concealing the labyrinthine underground city soon to be overrun by a hideous race of insect-like mutants with exposed brains and dead eyes, originally bred by the Metalunians for menial work.” – Tom Milne, “Time Out”

“Pioneering sf drama about space travel is rich in storytelling, atmosphere, visual design and color.” – Michael E. Grost, Classic Film and Television

“Pretty impressive sci-fi for 1955, a near classic.” – Steve Crum, Kansas City Kansan

Forbidden Planet:  Film in CinemaScope and Metrocolor! Shakespeare’s The Tempest is transformed in this landmark science-fiction film with groundbreaking special effects. Space men travel to a planet ruled by expatriate Pidgeon who has built a kingdom with his daughter and obedient robot Robby. There the good doctor is plagued by his mad quest for knowledge through his “brain booster” machine, and by Freudian “monsters from the id” as his daughter discovers other men and learns to kiss.

“MGM’s full color, ‘Scope production looks amazing, and Robby the Robot steals the show.” – Jeffrey M. Anderson, Combustible Celluloid
