“One of Fantastic Fest’s best films … Don’t sleep on this one!” – Amelia Emberwing, Birth.Movies.Death
Level 16 is a dystopian sci-fi thriller set in a bunker-based school for orphaned girls whose teachings are obedience and etiquette so that the students can one day be ‘adopted’ by good parents. When a formerly disgraced student now seeking redemption in the eyes of the school’s strict headmistress discovers the truth behind the school’s ‘good grooming’, and just what kind of a world lies in wait for the students outside of the institution’s walls, she and her classmates find themselves at the center of a revolution whose stakes are both their survival and their morality.
“A compelling thriller that serves as a powerful metaphor for the unnatural standards society places on women.” – Courtney Small, Cinema Axis
“An engaging, earnest and thrilling feminist fairy tale that both consciously riffs on earlier films and yet maintains an original vision without becoming clichéd or predictable.” – Alexandra Heller-Nicholas, AWFJ Women on Film
“A sharp little sci-fi thriller that does dystopia right, and like all the best bleak visions of a future world, it offers commentary worth sinking your teeth into.” – Haleigh Foutch, Collider.
