Joe R. Lansdale Talks After “Hap & Leonard” Screening at the Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe
Texas author & Bubonicon 48 toastmaster Joe R. Lansdale will be in Santa Fe on March 13 to converse with George RR Martin in a Q&A session after a screening of the first episode of season 2 of Hap and Leonard. He also will sign books.
About the Show: Set in the late 1980s, Hap and Leonard is a dark comedy set in a swamp about two best friends, one femme fatale, a crew of washed-up revolutionaries, a pair of murderous psycho-killers, some lost loot and the police. Based on the novels by Joe R. Lansdale, the show follows Hap Collins (James Purefoy), an East Texas white boy with a weakness for Southern women, and Leonard Pine (Michael Kenneth Williams), a gay, black Vietnam vet with a hot temper. When Hap’s seductive ex-wife Trudy (Christina Hendricks) resurfaces with a deal they can’t refuse, a simple get-rich-quick scheme snowballs into bloody mayhem. Chock full of eccentric characters, Hap and Leonard provides a country twist on the classic mystery thriller.
Joe R. Lansdale is the author of more than three dozen novels, including Paradise Sky, the Edgar Award-winning The Bottoms, Sunset and Sawdust, and Leather Maiden. He has received 11 Bram Stoker Awards, the American Mystery Award, the British Fantasy Award, the Raymond Chandler Award, and the Grinzane Cavour Prize for Literature. He lives with his family in Nacogdoches, Texas.
The event starts at 7:00 pm Monday, March 13. Admission cost is FREE – so buy a drink and/or some books!
