It’s a Big Comic Book Celebration!
Yes, Saturday, May 4, sees a celebration of the annual fannish event, Free Comic Book Day. Several stores throughout Albuquerque will be handing out free comic books and/or offering discounts on various comics, graphic novels, action figures and other materials.
For instance, we know that Astro-Zombies (Central Ave SE) starts their festivities at 10:00 am, including Sales on the Sidewalk and Inside. In 2014, A-Z gave out approximately 10,000 free comics. Over at Don’s Book Exchange (San Mateo SE), the store opens at 10:00 am for early birds – and the back warehouse will be open (10-5) along with markdowns of select merchandise. Plus other goodies! Lobo Comics (Juan Tabo NE) is celebrating Star Wars Day (May the Fourth) and should be open 11 am-7 pm with a sidewalk sale – plus the Batmobile and Bumblebee outside for pictures. Red Planet Comics & Books (Park Ave SW) is having a Star Wars/Comic Book Day block party with bands, Star Wars stuff until 8:00 pm! And Age of Comics over on Osuna NE will be participating, too.
Be sure to check out the action at these known participants – Astro-Zombies, Lobo Comics, Don’s Book Exchange, Comic Warehouse, Red Planet Comics & Books, Twin Suns, Age of Comics, Big Adventure Comics (Santa Fe, next to the Jean Cocteau Cinema) and more.
Good luck hunting down free comics, special deals and in-store appearances!
