Carrie is a 1976 American supernatural horror film directed by Brian De Palma from a screenplay written by Lawrence D. Cohen, adapted from Stephen King’s 1974 epistolary novel of the same name.  The film stars Sissy Spacek as Carrie White, a shy and troubled teenage girl who is tormented by her high school peers and her fanatically religious mother, begins to use her powers of telekinesis to exact revenge upon them.  The film also features Piper Laurie, Amy Irving, Nancy Allen, William Katt, P. J. Soles, Betty Buckley, and John Travolta in supporting roles.  De Palma was intrigued by King’s story and pushed for the studio to direct it while Spacek was encouraged by her husband to audition. It is the first of more than 100 film and television productions adapted from, or based on, the published works of King.

Carrie is calling you to pick a prom dress for our costume contest on Friday the 13th at our 9 pm screening—winner receives a $25 gift card!

THE LOST BOYS – Joel Schumacher’s 1987 horror comedy – Friday 6:00 only; Saturday 6:00 & 9:00 pm; Sunday 4:00 pm only – as part of our Spooky Season double feature with Brian De Palma’s CARRIE!

Directed by Joel Schumacher – 1987 – 97m

The Lost Boys is a 1987 American supernatural comedy horror film directed by Joel Schumacher, produced by Harvey Bernhard with a screenplay written by Jeffrey Boam, Janice Fischer and James Jeremias, from a story by Fischer and Jeremias.  The film’s ensemble cast includes Corey Haim, Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Feldman, Jason Patric, Jami Gertz, Dianne Wiest, Edward Herrmann, Billy Wirth, Brooke McCarter, Alex Winter, Jamison Newlander, and Barnard Hughes.  A mother and her two teenage sons move to a seemingly nice and quiet small coastal California town yet soon find out that it’s overrun by bike gangs and vampires. A couple of teenage friends take it upon themselves to hunt down the vampires that they suspect of a few mysterious murders and restore peace and calm to their town.  The title is a reference to the Lost Boys in J. M. Barrie’s stories about Peter Pan and Neverland, who, like vampires, never grow up.  Most of the film was shot in Santa Cruz, California.

The Jean Cocteau Cinema is located at 418 Montezuma Ave, Santa Fe, NM 87501.
