Programming for November 10 – A Talk from author & scientist Ian Tregillis.
Santa Fe author & scientist Ian Tregillis (Bitter Seeds, Something More Than Night, Wild Cards member) returns to give a Talk entitled, “The Math (and Physics) of Wild Cards.”
“The concept is a general-interest science presentation on fake comic-book science, but presented seriously, as if the subject were real, with some depth. It’s a technical presentation describing the development of a mathematical model that explains in a physically rigorous way many of the strange behaviors of the Wild Card virus that are established as canon in the books. (Nothing can explain logically how an alien virus gives people superpowers. But it’s possible to go surprisingly deep into how the virus effects large populations, statistically speaking.) Lots of pretty pictures and animated graphs; it should be fun and quite unique.”
