Hugo & Nebula Award-nominated NM author Rebecca Roanhorse Talks and Signs Her Debut Novel at the Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe.

Taos author Rebecca Roanhorse will be in Santa Fe on June 26 to talk about and sign her debut novel, Trail of Lightning: The Sixth World Book 1.  She will be joined in conversation by Santa Fe author Emily Mah.

Celebrating the release of Rebecca Roanhorse?s apocalyptic novel Trail of Lightning, the Jean Cocteau Cinema will host the inaugural book signing, discussion, and launch event for the NM author.  With roots in Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo and African-American heritage, Roanhorse searched everywhere for fantasy writing that featured Native Americans as main characters; failing to find anything to her liking, the Yale graduate decided to write her own.

About the Book:  As climate change begins to be quite demonstrative several decades earlier, it causes a cascading set of environmental collapses including flooding the United States everywhere below 3,500 feet. Dinétah, formerly a Navajo reservation, and the setting of the book, is part of all that is known to remain in the world, the central west.  In this science fiction world fraught with new rules and ancient legends, indigenous protagonist Maggie Hoskie hunts monsters with what seems to be supernatural talent.  She reluctantly enlists the aid of Kai Arviso, an unconventional medicine man, on her quest to find the truth behind disappearances in a small town. As the unlikely duo embark in a journey searching for clues, trading favors with tricksters, and battling dark witchcraft, Hoskie realizes she will have to confront her past if she wants to survive.

Hailing instant recognition for her debut novel, Roanhorse is a finalist for the Nebula, Hugo, and Sturgeon awards, as well as an award finalist for the 2017 Campbell Award Best New Science Fiction and Fantasy Writer.  Roanhorse will be interviewed by Santa Fe-area sci-fi author, Emily Mah.

The event starts at 6:00 pm Tuesday, June 26.  Admission cost is $10.00, without a book purchase; $22.00 with Roanhorse’s paperback; or $28.00 with a harcover purchase.
