Hey! Ho, let’s go! Guild goers! We’re thinkin’ you all are needin’ a whole lotta love, and we’re poised to give it up, to you, with our Battle of the Bands special. The contenders? Two bands that couldn’t be more unalike. From across “the pond”, Led Zeppelin, in their Madison Square Garden concert film, of 1973, The Song Remains the Same, replete with fantasy sequences of each member of the band, versus, who else? from the good ‘ol USA, our very own, Ramones, in their 1979 film, Rock and Roll High School. Who will prevail as champion? You decide. plus the screenings will likely feature a live band performing before each show (THANK YOU SISTER BAR!), and a drawing offering CD’s of the two featured, contending bands.
ROCK N’ ROLL HIGH SCHOOL: It’s the great Roger Corman produced, non-stop fun teen rock musical starring the delectable diehards The Ramones! Vince Lombardi High School has quite a reputation: it is the wildest, most rockin high school around! That is, until a thug of a principal, Miss Togar, comes along and tries to make the school a totalitarian state. With the help of the Ramones, the students of Vince Lombardi battle the iron-fisted rule of Miss Togar and take their battle to a truly explosive conclusion! Starring P.J. Soles (Halloween), Vince Van Patten (Hell Night), Clint Howard (Grand Theft Auto), Dey Young (Spaceballs), Mary Woronov (Death Race 2000), Dick Miller (Piranha) and Paul Bartel (Hollywood Boulevard).
“A pure, cheerfully juvenile blast of blitzkrieg guitar rock, Looney Tunes sight gags, teenage hormones and rebellion against authority because it’s there.” – Sean Axmaker, Seanax.com
“A brilliant little piece of work within its own framework.” – Kevin Carr, 7M Pictures
THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME: A trippy documentary of the legendary super heavy-rock group Led Zeppelin tour mixed with live concert footage, unique fantasy sequences, and interviews with those involved with the band! The filming took place during the summer of 1973, during three nights of concerts at Madison Square Garden in New York City, with additional footage shot at Shepperton Studios. The film premiered three years later in October 1976, accompanied by a soundtrack album of the same name. Promotional materials stated that the film was “the band’s special way of giving their millions of friends what they had been clamouring for – a personal and private tour of Led Zeppelin. For the first time the world has a front row seat on Led Zeppelin.”
