From director Alex Cox (Repo Man, Sid and Nancy, Walker) and based on sci-fi writer Harry “Soylent Green” Harrison’s novel of the same name – Bill the Galactic Hero is a science fiction satire about the dynamic Human vs Chingers war. Filmed at the beautiful Colorado University at Boulder campus and featuring an Iggy Pop title tune! Bill The Galactic Hero is considered to be the biggest student film ever made in regards to budget, crew and length of principle photography (lasting roughly seven months).
The director describes Bill as “a classic anti-war science fiction novel” and a “counterblast to Starship Troopers.” Cox makes its prole’s-eye view of war sound timely: “It’s told not from the flight deck but from the engine room: or to be more exact, the fusebays, where ranks of expendable Fusetenders Sixth Class wait to replace burned-out fuses, or die.”
The Guild Cinema is located at 3405 Central Avenue NE, in the Nob Hill area.
