Programming – Artists Jon Sanchez & Jeremy Montoya talk about artwork and screen printing!

♣ Jon Sanchez & Jeremy Montoya, artists of movie posters, concert posters and Hispanic artwork, visit to repeat their presentation from Bubonicon 55 – “Bubonicon Presents: Making A Movie Poster.”

This is a discussion and demonstration on illustrating and screen printing movie posters for Bubonicon screenings at the Guild Cinema.  Attendees will be able to purchase some of their posters, including the screen-printed, limited-edition prints of Perry & Terri Rodents with their fantasy wildlife and animal friends – which won “Best Use of Theme” in the 2024 Art Show!  [They also both won awards in the Hispanic Art Building at the 2024 New Mexico State Fair.]

JEREMY MONTOYA is an award-winning illustrator and screen printer, creating posters ranging from concert and movie posters, to traditional cultural work. He’s created gig posters for bands such as Coheed and Cambria and The Toadies. His gig posters for Bloomington band, Murder by Death, are published in their art book Framed.  For screenings at the Guild Cinema, some of his movie posters include MST3K and Pet Sematary.  His Halloween movie poster is featured in Printed in Blood’s Halloween Art Book.  Jeremy’s children’s book illustrations are published by Rio Grande Press, in Grandpa Lolo and Trampa: A Story of Surprise and Mystery and The Talking Lizard: New Mexico’s Magic and Mystery.
JON SANCHEZ is an illustrator, screen printer and graphic designer, born and raised in Albuquerque.  Jon finds inspiration in his ancestry, which is often reflected in his award-winning artwork celebrating New Mexican culture.  He’s also designed and screen printed gig posters for bands such as The Dandy Warhols and Fleetwood Mac.  For screenings at the Guild Cinema, some of his “Bubonicon Presents” movie posters include Labyrinth and Aliens.  Jon’s artwork has been published in Printed in Blood’s Aliens Art Book and Monsa’s When We Were Young: 80’s Movie Posters. He also has created the artwork for Ante Up, a Wild Cards graphic novel out next year.
