THE MADS ARE BACK TO VIRTUALLY RIFF “PHANTOM FROM SPACE”!
Mystery Science Theater 3000‘s Frank Conniff and Trace Beaulieu are “taking movie riffing back onstage” once again in a livestreamed event – this time 6:00 pm MT Tuesday, March 9.
The two, who starred as Dr. Clayton Forrester and TV’s Frank on MST3K, are riffing the 1953 sci-fi flick, Phantom from Space! This show will mark their ninth time performing together virtually during the 2020-2021 COVID-19 pandemic. A Q&A session with special guest Bill Corbett (of MST3K and RiffTrax) follows the movie screening.
This show will broadcast live via a private link that will be sent to ticket purchasers an hour prior to showtime. A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit MST3K makeup artist Crist Ballas, who needs assistance with medical costs incurred during a recent and unexpected week long hospital stay. You can read more about Crist and donate directly to his GoFundMe page here.
Viewers will be able to tune in from anywhere in the world. Anyone who purchases a ticket will gain access to re-watch the livestream and download it for personal viewing.
Phantom from Space is a 1953 American B&W sci-fi film directed by W. Lee Wilder and starring Ted Cooper. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) investigators arrive in the San Fernando Valley after what appears to be a flying saucer crash, causing massive interference with tele-radio transmissions. During their investigation, they receive eyewitness reports of what appears to be a man dressed in a bizarre outfit, which appears to be radioactive and thus a public threat. Their investigation uncovers that the man is actually a humanoid creature from outer space, who is invisible without his spacesuit. They start a massive manhunt for the invisible, radioactive alien running loose.
Tickets for the March 9 livestreamed event are $10.00 plus a service fee. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-mads-phantom-from-space-live-riffing.
