Live Script Reading of unproduced “Max Headroom” at the Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe – along with the final filmed episode!

The Jean Cocteau Cinema is hosting a Marathon of the 1980s cult classic “Max Headroom” from Saturday, May 13, through Saturday, May 20.  Max producer Michael Cassutt (who now works on SyFy’s Z Nation) will be on hand the whole marathon!  On May 20, actor Matt Frewer and producer Steve Roberts also will be participating!

Television networks battle one another in an unrelenting ratings war. Whoever controls the airwaves controls the dystopic world in which they broadcast. So when Network 23’s star reporter, Edison Carter, uncovers a deadly secret that could shake up the dominion the station has over its viewers, the only option is to eliminate Carter before he can make his story public. After his “accident,” his mind is uploaded to create the world’s first self-aware, computer-generated TV host: Max Headroom! But will Max bow to his creators? Or will he be the key to his human alter ego bringing down a network superpower?  Able to boast his own international talk show, music videos, countless endorsements and merchandising, the puckish Max Headroom became more than just a character on television. He was a decade-defining icon, never better represented than in this sardonically witty, adventurous look at society and the place of media within it. Starring Matt Frewer (Watchmen), Amanda Pays (The Flash), Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development) and Morgan Sheppard (Star Trek).

The Jean Cocteau Cinema hosts a live reading 7:00 pm May 20 of George RR Martin’s unproduced Max script, “X-Mass” with Matt Frewer appearing as Max/Edison Carter (this episode was in pre-production when the series was cancelled).  Also, the final filmed episode, “Baby Grobags,” will be screened.  Admittance is $10.00, and seating is limited!

The Jean Cocteau Cinema is located at 418 Montezuma Avenue, north end of the Rail Yard District, in Santa Fe. For more info: 505-466-5528 or JeanCocteauCinema.com.
