Ellen Datlow at Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe

Hugo & Stoker Award-winning editor and anthologist Ellen Datlow (former fiction editor of OMNI, current editor of SCI FICTION) will be at the Jean Cocteau Cinema on March 15 for a talk and signing.

So far, she has had two anthologies out in 2015 – The 17th Annual Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror and The Faery Reel. And now her latest – The Doll Collection. The Doll Collection is exactly what it sounds like: a treasured toy box of all-original dark stories about dolls of all types, including everything from puppets and poppets to mannequins and baby dolls. Featuring everything from life-sized clockwork dolls to all-too-human Betsy Wetsy-type baby dolls, these stories play into the true creepiness of the doll trope, but avoid the clichés that often show up in stories of this type.

In honor of The Doll Collection‘s release, the Jean Cocteau will be hosting a… Creepy Doll Contest! Send submissions to deadmartyr@yahoo.com.  Creepy dolls will be judged based on originality, creativity, characterization, artistic quality, and inventiveness.  Each participant may submit one doll.  Size limits: 6 to 24 inches tall.  Votes may be cast by any visitor to the Jean Cocteau Cinema.  You may only vote once per doll.  You may vote for as many dolls as you like, but only once for any given doll.  Contest Timeline Submissions End: Wednesday, March 11, 2015.
Voting Begins: Wednesday, March 11, 2015 9:00 am.  Voting Ends: Sunday, March 15, at 6:30 pm.
Prizes Awarded: Sunday, March 15, 2015 at 7:30 pm.  With grand prizes based on your ability to creep out the queen of creepy Ellen herself.
Don’t miss out – start your Creepy Doll submission today. Stay Tuned for more details!

Be sure to join Datlow in Santa Fe 6:30 pm Sunday, March 15.  Admission is Free with the purchase of a hardcover, $5.00 with the purchase of a paperback, and $10.00 without a purchase.
