Tom Thumb Comes To Guild

George Pal’s Tom Thumb at the Guild Cinema

Saturday & Sunday, December 28-29 – 11:00 am & 1:00 pm

Directed by George Pal – 1958 – 98m.
A Mom’s Matinee Presentation – All seats just $5.00

When the 2-inch-tall Tom Thumb arrives at a childless couple’s door, it seems like the perfect family has been created. But a chance meeting with a pair of devious robbers soon has Tom acting as an unwitting accomplice in a robbery, thereby threatening his family’s happiness. Only Tom (Russ Tamblyn of West Side Story) and his friend Woody (Alan Young) can prove the innocence of Tom’s parents and bring the robbers to justice. This 1958 presentation of the classic Brothers Grimm fairytale won an Oscar® for its innovative special effects. Timeless scenes include the famous dancing shoes and the painted boy who peels himself off of a pad of paper to dance around the room. Peggy Lee and Fred Spielman provide a wealth of catchy songs that have Tamblyn, Young, and Peter Sellers singing, dancing, and performing impressive gymnastic feats. This fanciful tale will appeal to the entire family.

The Guild Cinema is located at 3405 Central Avenue NE, in the Nob Hill area.

From the Master of the Macabre comes a journey that leads to hell and back. Though not everyone survives the trip. For the Creeds, home is where the horror is.

Original Film Directed by Nicholas Webster – 1964 – 81m.
2013 Riffing/Commentary provided by Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett – approximately 120m.

The stars of Mystery Science Theater 3000 are back in select cinemas nationwide on Thursday, December 5th for only one night in a hilarious never-before-seen take on the Christmas “classic”: Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.

Join Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett of RiffTrax.com 7:00 pm Thursday, October 24th for an uproarious riff on one of the most popular titles in the MST3K catalog! This one-night event will be your only chance to see the guys fire their wisecracking commentary at Santa Claus Conquers the Martians on the big screen.

This 1964 science fiction film regularly appears on lists of the worst films ever made, and also is regularly featured in the “bottom 100” list on the Internet Movie Database. It was featured in an episode of the 1986 syndicated series, the Canned Film Festival. It stars John Call as Santa Claus, and includes an 8-year-old Pia Zadora playing the role of one of the Martian children. The film took on newfound fame in the 1990s after being featured on an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000. It became a holiday staple on  Comedy Central in the years following its 1991 premiere. It has since found new life again in the last decade, having been riffed by Cinematic Titanic and also featured on Elvira’s Movie Macabre.

Again, this special presentation takes place in Albuquerque at the Century Rio, Century Downtown and the Regal Cottonwood theaters.
